There have been many (mis?) uses of patents lately where non-companies (who do not innovate) sue hardworking companies (that have put in years of effort and lots of money). These lawsuits extort untold millions of dollars in "licensing fees" for "patent infringement."

I personally believe that patents, copyrights, and boundaries of Intellectual Property have their place and their use. However, patent trolls fly in the face of all that is innovation.

So, I wrote, performed, and recorded a tune to express my opinions on the subject. I took the sweetest, most warm-sounding acoustic guitar and acoustic bass I have - and distorted their sound through a nasti-fier amp model. After the music was recorded, I sang my little tune through layers of sound and distortion.

You can listen to the tune at my little place on Audiri.com. It will is hosted and available here:

Of course, the music and lyrics are copyright (c)2006 Jimmy Bear Pearson. Enjoy!

Here are the lyrics:
Patent Trolls Got No Souls
(C)Copyright 2006 Jimmy Bear Pearson
-------------------------------------
They got nothin' to do
But to make trouble for me and you
Sittin' round all day
Thinkin' up their games to play
Sittin' 'round
All 'round town
Tryin' to catch someone
Doin' somethin' good.

Patent Trolls
Patent Trolls
Patent Trolls got nothin' to lose
They got no mortgate
Kid don't need no shoes
Patent Trolls, they got nothin' to lose
Goin' make us all sing the blues.

Don't asky me why
The sun's up in the sky
Don't ask me why
Gonna patent that, too.
Lawyers com a-callin', sayin'
Gotta pay to sing the blues.

Patent Trolls Got No Souls
Got no place to call home
Patent Trolls Got No Souls
Got no place to call home.

Patent Trolls
Gonna have my lawyer call ya!
Habeas Corpus?
Hey, didn't you use that text
I got in my patent?
Well, you gotta pay a license for it!

Patent Trolls
Got No Souls
Got no place to call home
Patent Trolls...

I've been busy lately (what's new?). I've been spending lots of time with my family, lots of time working for a great company, and lots of time making music - acoustic, electronic, rock, and experimental...

I just wanted to remind everyone of a couple of things:

Give blood (I'm at my 50th pint to the American Red Cross - it is not too hard if it is something you're comfortable doing);

Give hair! Locks of Love! Lots of folks (particularly kids) need help with hair prosthetics. I've got nearly 7 inches of donate-able head-hair growth now - should be donating at the end of this year or into the next. Growing one's hair long enough to donate is bothersome at times, but is not nearly as bothersome as it is for those who can't grow their own;

Get on the National Bone Marrow Registry. It doesn't hurt to join up - and you could save someone's life!

I've given Indian Paintbrush as an available music file in the Wikimedia Commons Site. You can see the media page here:The Indian Paintbrush Wikimedia Page.

I've given it as a free download in .ogg format. I hope the world enjoys the tune!

Indian Paintbrush has been (probably) my most downloaded tune, and the one that my tens of fans have enjoyed the most!
